PolyLight™ Accelerated Weather Testing Information
Light Tape UK, PolyLight™ and Electro-LuminX have joined forces to carry out accelerated weather testing on the PolyLight™ illuminated anti slip stair nosing insert. The tests have helped us to better understand how the product will fair in extreme weather conditions or, in a life time worth of exposure to varying weather conditions.
After 4 months in an accelerated weather tester (shown above) where the PolyLight™ product was subjected to variations in temperature form 20°C to 45°C, extremes of humidity between 0% and 100%, including varying airflow conditions during this cycle, the PolyLight™ strips were also subjected to a variety of tests using ultra violet light, including UVA -340 which is primarily used for the testing of pigments, plastics, textiles, UV stabilises and QFS – 40 which is largely used in automotive exterior coating testing to determine the effects on materials that have been exposed to naturally occurring amounts of UV rays in sunlight (UVB-351).
Actual tests carried out:
Tests were carried out using a Q-Panel QUL Accelerated Weather Tester model QUV, which was set on a 24-hour cycle consisting of 10 hours active cycle and 14 hours rest. During this period of time the PolyLight™ was subjected to changes in Humidity, Heat and UV exposure, these tested the quality of the glass reinforced plastic, showing that it dose not become brittle under extended UV exposure and is not damaged or Warped when exposed to dramatic changes in heat and humidity.
Expanding on the tests carried out by Electro-LuminX, Light Tape UK Carried out tests at the opposite end of the extreme heat and humidity testing. PolyLight™ was placed in water whilst lit, placed in a freezer and frozen then thawed several times.
Tests showed that even after being frozen then thawed several times the PolyLight™ did not fail and continued to operate within expected parameters even after being thawed using boiling water.

What is Light Tape?
Light Tape® could reduce CO2 output by 100’s of 1000’s of Tons every year, save millions of pounds worth of electricity, plus it’s the most environmentally friendly lighting product on the planet.
PS: it’s also less expensive to buy, install and maintain than traditional display lighting.
Light Tape is made up of metal ribbon coated in Sylvania phosphor and encapsulated in a Honeywell laminate. Light Tape has no glass, no gas, and no mercury/heavy metals and so is user and environment friendly. Light tape provides an 85% - 90% energy saving against other commercially available light sources such as Neon and Cold Cathode. Light Tape uses 1 Watt per Meter at 25mm (1”) wide, a 100m length of 25mm wide Light Tape only uses the same power as a 100w light bulb. Due to its ultrathin profile of less than 1mm Light Tape provides a neater, modern, space saving alterative that is easy to install with little to no maintenance and has a long working life of up to 40,000 hours.
