The low, seductive, ambient lighting that characterises and sets the Boujis sexy and intimate atmosphere, great music and friendly bar staff certainly attracts a wealth of high profile guests to the extremely popular London night spot. However, low light levels posed a problem on the main stairway leading down to the night club itself and that was where LumaGrip™™ came in to play.

Illuminated stair nosing’s have been available for many years using LEDs but they have always been bulky, complicated, high maintenance and expensive. LumaGrip™ is set to change this with a range of illuminated inserts that replace existing infill in standard Aluminium and PVC nosing’s.

LumaGrip™, illuminated stair nosing insert, ticks all the boxes by providing a safety feature that is anti –slip and can be supplied in a variety of colours, making it easy to colour co ordinate or contrast creating an ideal solution that will enhance any stair area.

Compared to standard illuminated nosing’s LumaGrip™ comes with the added benefits of having a good anti-slip rating and a glare free illumination. Also, standard illuminated nosing has, due to the bulb size, been limited to the front of the nosing on the face of the riser, which means they can be seen clearly only when going up the stairs.

The light source has to be bright enough to illuminate the lower tread and the resulting glare can prove visually distracting. LumaGrip™ however is fitted in to the tread of the stair and so can be seen clearly from both the top and bottom without glare, providing easy to see illuminated edges, complying with Health and Safety regulations

LumaGrip™ incorporates the Light Tape® electroluminescent lighting product into its design which also makes the lighting system extremely economical to run. LumaGrip™ illuminated inserts have been developed to fit into any standard 50mm x 4mm Aluminium or PVC Plastic profiles. It is available in a width of 50mm by 4mm deep and up to 5m in length, incorporating either 6mm or 12mm Light Tape® in a variety of Colours. All connections are embedded in resin making the product safe and easy to clean.

LumaGrip™ has been developed to fit into standard Aluminum profiles, timber stairs and decking as well as uneven floors (edges of dance floors etc) safer and more visible with the benefit of light, which also has the advantage of looking attractive and adding a splash of truly visible colour and interest to any bar or club. This is one safety essential that really looks good too

Light Tape® illuminates Manchester's New "M" logo

When Marketing Manchester wanted to create an illuminated version of Peter Saville's "M" logo design they chose Light Tape®.

Installed at the Manchester visitors centre the "M", Manchester's brand signature situated in the centre's window on the corner of Piccadilly Plaza on Portland Street, to add a touch of colour and interest to the busy Portland Street area in time for Manchester day the 20th of July 2010.

The recently opened information centre is presented as a truly modern, forward looking, fun place that projects the merits of Manchester in very much the same way.

The "M", Manchester's brand signature, has been produced using Light Tape® in various colours, meant to convey within its design a vibrant, modern, simplistic statement that the richness and diversity of the City and the individuals within it, exist in parallel and where the strands of colour intersect the city becomes a truly exciting place with the people who live and work there, both "original and modern", all contributing to make Manchester the city it is today.

The designer of the Manchester "M" is Peter Saville, who for over twenty-five years has produced essential innovations in the field of communications, significantly affecting the interplay between art and design. Amongst other achievements Saville created a series of iconic album covers for the bands Joy Division and New Order and was also at the forefront of developments in conceptual design with exhibits his work showing in museums and art galleries internationally

Manchester's "M" brand signature is used for national and international communications, when City partners from across Greater Manchester and the wider city-region are promoting themselves jointly under a 'Manchester' banner and Light Tape® UK are proud to have been able to assist in the physical realization of the symbol of Manchester at the visitors centre.

Light Tape®

Light Tape® uses less than one twentieth of the power and is half the price of Neon and Cold Cathode display lighting, it is flexible, easier to install and maintain, reduces light pollution, produces no waste heat or infrared light, is fully recyclable, uses No Gas, No Glass and No Mercury.

Light Tape® is the longest and brightest electroluminescent lamp in the world. It can be supplied in a range of colours and widths, in lengths up to 100m. Driven by specially devised power supplies, it can be used in flashing or steady state modes in indoor or outdoor applications. The design is safe with no mercury, no glass to break or gas to escape and it's highly energy efficient too. In application, it is easy to install, requiring virtually no maintenance compared to alternative lighting technologies.

A NASA study for the Air Force on Electroluminescent Lighting showed the technology was easily visible from distances over five miles away. Notably Light Tape® light penetrates fog, smoke, snow, haze and other normally poor visibility conditions.
